Manual Handling & Support Worker Training

Manual Handling & Support Worker Training

The people who support someone day-to-day play an enormous role in their safety and wellbeing. Knowing how to assist with transfers, positioning, and movement safely makes a real difference, for both the participant and the support worker.

Blue Water Physio provides physiotherapist-led manual handling training across the Gold Coast and Northern NSW, tailored to the specific needs of the participant being supported.

What is manual handling training?

Manual handling training equips support workers, carers, and family members with the knowledge and practical skills to safely assist a participant with movement, transfers, positioning, and daily physical activities.

Training led by a physiotherapist is tailored to the individual participant, rather than being a generic course. This means the techniques and strategies taught are specific to that person’s body, condition, equipment, and home environment.

Who is it for?

  • Professional support workers providing NDIS or aged care supports
  • Family members and informal carers assisting a loved one at home
  • NDIS providers wanting participant-specific training for their team
  • Aged care organisations supporting clients with complex physical needs

What the training covers

Training is designed around the participant and their specific support needs. It may cover safe transfer techniques, correct use of any relevant equipment, positioning and seating, and practical strategies for common daily activities. Sessions are hands-on and conducted in the participant’s home environment.

How we deliver it

We travel to the participant’s home or care setting, which means training is conducted in the actual environment where support takes place. This makes the training immediately practical and relevant.

We work with individuals and organisations across the Gold Coast and Northern NSW.

Funding your manual handling training

  • NDIS – Capacity Building (Improved Daily Living) for participant-specific training
  • Home Care Package (HCP) / Support at Home
  • Private (self-funded) for organisations funding staff training directly
